Successful Entrepreneur and Author Renette Torres Will Speak at Forest Hill in Pacific Grove
Forest Hill is hosting a monthly speaker series and has invited entrepreneur, accomplished businesswoman and author Renette Torres to speak on Wednesday, May 22 at 3:30pm at the Forest Hill Fireside Lounge at 551 Gibson Avenue.
In 1975, Torres pioneered her way through a male dominated industry when she became the first woman working as an outside sales representative for Sheffield Watch Company. She will share stories from her book, Ya Wanna Watch? I’ll Let Ya!, which reflects on her “laughing while learning” experience as an entrepreneur and road to building her own successful business, It’s Time. Just shy of 90 years young, Torres’ energy and enthusiasm for life comes through when she speaks. The event is ideal for people of all ages, whether you are just starting out or looking for a new direction, and it is FREE and open to the public.
Torres, who founded her watch company in 1981, designed and manufactured hundreds of unique watches and clocks during her career. The concept for her business began “as a fluke,” while she worked as a sales representative for a company called Watches West with a territory that included Reno, Nevada. While at a business meeting with several brokers she made a comment about a slot machine clock, however no such clock existed. The buyers were interested so she set out to create one. She continued to develop unique designs and by the mid-eighties had designed more than 100 different moving face watches and clocks and the company had landed several large chain retailers
