2017 Monterey Car Show


Each August, the sleepy coastal town of Monterey wakes up and finds itself jam-packed with everything the car enthusiast could desire. The much-anticipated Monterey Car Show draws connoisseurs and enthusiasts from around the world, and with good reason. Monterey becomes a mecca for automotive lovers, curators and collectors … a place to get lost in their passion.

Monterey Car Week, 2017

Beginning on August 15th and running through August 20th, Monterey Car Week is filled with automobile shows, auto memorabilia, auctions and so much more. Many of the events are free.

Opening day, Tuesday, August 15th, filled with events and activities, has a little something for everyone. Events include:

  • Join the staff of Classic Motorsports for kickoff events at the Classic Motorsports Magazine Monterey Kick Off Cruise-In in the downtown area of nearby Pacific Grove. Bring your exotic or cool classic car and enjoy an evening of great food and fine wine. Admission is free and everyone is invited to attend.
  • Automobilia Monterey Expo is the largest automobilia extravaganza in America. Approximately 45 top international dealers sell vintage posters and signs, hood ornaments, vintage scale models, original art, books and so much more in a relaxed indoor setting. Admission is $15 for one day or $20 for admission on both the 15th and 16th. A silent auction is also held. The event benefits the Monterey Rape Crisis Center.
  • During the Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours on the Avenue, eighteen downtown blocks of nearby Carmel are filled with collector cars, showcasing automobiles not otherwise seen during the car show. Almost 200 American and foreign cars including Sporting Cars, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars and Luxury Cars will be on display in juried class groups. Admission is free.

Wednesday, August 16th is another day filled with fun for automobile lovers. Events include:

  • The Automobilia Monterey Expo continues. Admission is $15 for one day or $20 for admission on both the 15th and 16th.Savor a glass of wine from some of Monterey County’s finest vineyards as you enjoy a display of exotic and classic cars at the Carmel Mission Classic. The event includes wine tasting, a no host gourmet food bar and a much-anticipated display of autos. Proceeds go to the charities of Carmel Mission and the Knights of Columbus.
  • The Little Car Show, featuring Scandinavian vehicles, takes place in downtown Pacific Grove. This event features 100 automobiles at least a quarter of a century old. A tour/parade follows the show. Admission is free.
  • The 26th Annual McCall’s Motorworks Revival is a one night exclusive event that formally kicks off automobile week. Taking place at the Monterey Jet Center, VIP guests, including celebrities and industry dignitaries, enjoy gourmet delights, new and classic rare cars and jets … it’s a scene of pure luxury.
  • For the Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auction, viewing of the automobiles is on the 16th and 17th with auction on the 18th and 19th. It is an incredible auction drawing collectors from the world over looking for new additions to their stables.
  • RM Sotheby’s Auction offers vehicles that grab the attention of the world’s most discerning collectors.
  • Russo and Steele’s 16th Annual Sports and Muscle Auction offers a collection of the highest quality, most luxurious and collectible European sport cars.

The engines roar on Thursday, August 17th, as the races begin in the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. In addition to the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, there are many other events that day:

  • Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is the largest event held during Monterey Classic Car Week. Throughout the week, approximately 550 cars will race, matched against other cars based on the car’s authenticity, period correctness and race provenance. Race times are scheduled to take place August 17th through the 20th.
  • Mecum Muscle Cars & More is three days of muscle cars, motorcycles and more.
  • Viewing continues for the Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auction.
  • Rick Cole Auctions offers 40 of the finest classic, sports and racing cars available for auction.
  • RM Sotheby’s Auction continues.
  • Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance by Rolex is a driving tour delighting entrants and spectators alike.
  • Russo and Steele’s 16th Annual Sports and Muscle Auction continues.
  • 4th Annual AIM for the Cures Gala to support youth mental health research. It will be a memorable evening on the Parc du Concours, Pebble Beach, where you’ll be inspired, mesmerized and entertained. This years’ Gala will feature New York Times bestselling author and legendary comedian Darrell Hammond, best known as the longest-tenured cast member on Saturday Night Live and for his much beloved and hilarious impressions of Bill Clinton, Sean Connery and more. Evening also includes a cocktail reception with a wine-tasting of Premium wines and ice luges with Ketel One martinis, gourmet dinner by Pebble Beach Company world-class chefs, Grgich Wine Estates and Trinchero Estates premium wines served at dinner.

Other events include the Italian Stampede and Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction.

Things really start to rev up on Friday, August 18th, with a full list of events, such as:

  • Races at Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion continue.
  • Exotics on Cannery Row is the ideal place to look for the latest automotive high-end modification product. Vendors catering to the luxury automobile market will be there selling their latest innovations. Free and open to the public.
  • Legends of the Autobahn is an all-German Concours d’Elegance consistently drawing more than 400 registered cars. It is hosted by the BMW Car Club of America, the Audi Club of America and the Mercedes-Benz Club of America.
  • If you love Porsches, then Werks Reunion, the show’s largest gathering of Porsches, is the event you don’t want to miss. This free-to-spectators event features current models to rare classics and everything in between.
  • After two days of viewing, the Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auction begins.
  • Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion races continue.
  • Mecum Muscle Cars & More continues.
  • Rick Cole Auctions continues.
  • RM Sotheby’s Auction continues.
  • Russo and Steele’s 16th Annual Sports and Muscle Auction continues.

The engines continue to purr as Saturday, August 19th, rolls in with a whole new set of events like:

  • Concorso Italiano features more than 1,000 automobiles of Italian origin. Located in Seaside, this event is a full day of car viewing pleasure.
  • Want to see some of the vehicle universe’s biggest mishaps? Also set to take place in Seaside, Concours d’LeMons shares some of the worst faux pas of the automotive world. This event is free to all, both spectators and participants.
  • The Barnyard Ferrari Event takes place in Carmel. It promises many gorgeous cars, notably Ferrari, of course, while you also enjoy local wines, delicious foods and live music. Proceeds of the event benefit the Rotary Club of Monterey Cannery Row and The Arts Council for Monterey County.
  • Final day for the Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auction.
  • Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion races continue.
  • Final day for Mecum Muscle Cars & More.
  • Rick Cole Auctions continues.
  • Final day for RM Sotheby’s Auction.
  • Final day for Russo and Steele’s 16th Annual Sports and Muscle Auction.

As the week comes to a close on Saturday, August 20th, automobile enthusiasts look forward to one more day of amazing activities which include:

  • The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, an automotive charitable event, is set to wrap up the Monterey Car Show. Held on the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links, it’s a dazzlingly elegant event set in a breathtaking location.
  • Races wrap up at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
  • The final day for Rick Cole Auctions.
